49th Annual Heard Nature Photography Contest (2026)

The Heard Photography Contest is open to USA residents only.

Join the Legacy of Nature Photography

For nearly half a century, the Heard Nature Photography Contest has celebrated the beauty of the natural world through the eyes of photographers of every age and skill level. First held in 1978—three years before the formation of the Heard Nature Photographers Club—the contest has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated showcases of nature-inspired imagery.

You don’t need to be a member of the Heard Museum or the Photography Club to enter. This contest is open to all photographers. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or simply love capturing the wonder of nature with your camera, your vision belongs here.

From the earliest days of judging prints to today’s all-digital competition, the contest has evolved while staying true to its purpose: to inspire, to challenge, and to share the natural world through photography. Winning images are not just celebrated—they help support the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, with all proceeds (after administrative costs) benefiting its mission of education and conservation.

Now in its 49th year, the contest is more vibrant than ever. So gather your best images, let your creativity shine, and become part of this enduring tradition of photography and nature.
